The move means supporters of Premier League teams can look forward to greater competition between travel agents and tour providers and, hopefully, cheaper prices.

Thomas Cook Sport has also been announced as Ireland’s only official ticket supplier to 10 of the UK’s top clubs – Manchester Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Celtic, Rangers, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Newcastle Utd. This means fans will no longer face problems at the gate as clubs clamp down on ticket re-sales.

“With clubs clamping down on resold tickets, the reassurance of buying from an official ticket supplier is important to people. Fans don’t want to risk being turned away having travelled so far to see the game,” said John Grehan of Thomas Cook Sport Ireland. “It is great to bring something extra to the Irish fans.”

The tie-in with clubs also means the agency will have greater access to tickets than other operators and will be able to offer stadium tours, match day programmes, Club Museum tours and discount vouchers for club stores in the price of packages.

Examples of upcoming packages include tickets for Manchester Utd v West Brom on 16 October with an overnight in The Premier Inn for €223, tickets for Anfield for Liverpool v Blackburn on 23 October with overnight for €263 and for the Old Firm derby in Glasgow on 1 January for €248. Prices are per person sharing on a B&B basis with match programme, and do not include travel. Group rates are available.

Alongside football, rugby internationals and World Cup games, horseracing, Formula 1, tennis, cricket an other sporting events will be bookable in 2011.
