Here at JOE we love our cars and we also have quite the fondness for television – so why not mash the two and bring you the Top 5 car ads of 2011.

Jeep Cherokee

Jeep released a special edition Cherokee to coincide with the release of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. The car itself wasn’t that different from the stock model, apart from a different paint job, a few stickers and some collectors’ edition kit.

But the advert itself is class none the less. It has everything a bloke could want: a nice looking car driven fairly skilfully through explosions, a tank and even a chopper at the end.

You might not necessarily want to buy the Jeep MW3 edition, but it certainly does make you think about what you could do in a warzone with one.

FIAT Abarth

Very rarely does a car company pull off an amazingly sexy advert without trying too hard, but the guys at FIAT clearly know what they’re doing. The ad is an instant hit, as the first thing we see is a gorgeous model bending over.

The fact that this advert is all in Italian makes it even sexier. You can’t understand what she is saying to the helpless chap but that doesn’t matter. You can basically guess what she is saying.

The ending is somewhat predictable, but again that doesn’t matter. By time you figure out the hot model is actually the car, so has the guy in the ad. Plus, you have to admire the perfect timing throughout.

Volkswagen Passat

The Darth Vader Passat advert has only recently made its way to our shores, in a butchered, watered down version. The full video originally aired at half-time at this year’s Super Bowl and has since gained a lot of well-deserved praise. The mini Vader is as ‘cute and cuddly’ as it is funny, trying to unleash ‘the force’ on any unsuspecting beings – be they living or inanimate. But sadly, this is reality and special powers are reserved for only special people like the Pope and Bono. That is until his father comes home in the Passat.

This is a great little advert and one you’re sure to enjoy time and time again.

Renault Megane

As we said above, it’s rare that a car company makes a good sexy advert without looking as though they’re just out to sell sex. Renault however has made a gem in the new Megane advert. The sex factor is kept to a minimum, but that’s ok, as it’s the bloke’s reaction that makes the ad.

Clearly he is only interesting in one thing, that being the car but it’s his expression at the end that really makes this ad top class. The advert is really saying what most blokes are thinking.

Chrysler 200

This advert for the Chrysler 200 may not have aired over on our shores but it still made news over here regardless. You could look at the ad and say Eminem is simply selling out or you could take the different view that he is selling out in what is one of the most powerful adverts to hit TV screens for a long time.

Watch it and see for yourself. Warning: chills down your spine may ensue.
