From supercars to hot hatches there were so many great cars released in 2012, but we haven’t got all day, so here are top five (somewhat affordable) cars of the year.

Mercedes A-Class

The all-new A-Class deserved to make the list thanks to its stunning new looks and it’s accessibility to a younger market. The old A-Class was, well, a granny car, but we’d be happy seated behind the wheel of this gorgeous motor. It’s a great drive and it handles great in tight corners for a smallish motor.

Skoda Yeti

The Skoda Yeti was this year’s dark horse. At first we didn’t really know what to make of it, but after a few days behind the wheel we absolutely loved it. It was incredibly powerful, but nimble for a big bus and it also looks quite mean and sporty with the upgraded alloy wheels and a black paint job.

VW Golf

The all-new Golf embodies the saying; if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The newly released model is the 7th generation and although there wasn’t anything surprisingly different with this model, it still drives as good as ever and looks great. Definitely onto a winner here…

Hyundai Velostar

The Hyundai Velostar is unusual in the sense that it’s a 3-door (technically a 4-door) with two doors on the passenger side, but only one door on the driver’s side. It’s suppose to make passenger safety that little bit better, but it also gives the car an unique appeal that instantly won us over.

Toyota GT 86

The Toyota GT 86 was easily the best car we tested over the course of 2012. It had everything; the looks, the speed, the handling – especially the handling – and it really is the next best thing to playing a driving game. It was definitely this year’s dream car for most of us in the office.
