As if things couldn’t get any worse for the Japanese car manufacturing company. But they have. Yesterday, Toyota announced that it would be recalling 2.17 million more vehicles in the US.

Only two weeks ago a NASA study cleared the company of having any faults in its cars and said there shouldn’t be any reason for sudden acceleration.

But all hope that Toyota was finally out of the woods faded away when the announcement stated that mechanical defects could cause the cars to accelerate out of control. ‘Sorry officer, the pedal was stuck,’ has been the popular excuse in the US with speeders. The majority of which don’t drive a Toyota.

This amounts to 13 million product recalls in the US since problems began in 2009. Safety experts are now saying that ‘the problems could linger and haunt Toyota like a bad fart in the shower’.

According to the LA Times the recall affects six Toyota and Lexus models that date as far back as 2003. Models included in the recall are the popular ‘soccer mom’ RAV4 along with the Highlander and Lexus RX.

No word of problems on this side of the pond as of yet but we will certainly be keeping our eyes open. The major problems seem to be happening with the left hand drive countries but us NORMAL right-hand side drivers should be safe enough.

If you notice any problems get in touch with your dealer. Your car dealer, not the other guy.
