Travel chaos: airports open but many delays and cancellations

The airports are open but the bad weather is still taking its toll, and it's not helping that there are strikes in Spain.

The airports are open but the inclement weather is still taking its toll, and it’s not helping that there are strikes in Spain.

Many flights are departing from the main Irish airports with minor delays, however flights to Spain and those that need to fly over Spain have had to be cancelled following a wildcat strike by Spanish air traffic controllers closed airspace across the country on Friday night.

There have been cancellations to a number of flights within Ireland also, such as some between Dublin and Galway and between Dublin and Sligo, however other flights between these destinations are delayed, but still operating.

Some flights between Dublin and Paris and between Dublin and Amsterdam were showing up as cancelled on the departure board on Saturday afternoon.

Snow and ice clearing teams are on standby at Dublin Airport, should weather conditions deteriorate.

Passengers are being advised to consult with the websites of individual airlines before heading to the airport.

The latest updates relating to Dublin airport are being posted on http://twitter.com/dublinairport
