VIDEO: A man missing for 30 years identified himself after remembering who he was

Colm Boohig

Yes, you read that headline correctly.

The last person you’d expect to find someone missing for over three decades is the person themselves… but that’s exactly what has happened in Ontario, Canada.

Missing guy. Nearly 30 years after his disappearance, a Kitchener, Ont., man solved his own cold case when he suddenly remembered his identity. Edgar Latulip was 21 years old when he vanished from the southern Ontario city. But this Wednesday, Waterloo Regional Police confirmed he was found roughly 130 kilometres away in St. Catharines, Ont., and is doing well.

According to The Record, Edgar Latulip, who had a developmental difficulty, had been missing since he was 21, when he hit his head on a bus 30 years ago and lost all memory.

In the intervening years, Latulip had been living in Niagra under a different alias.

That was until this passed January when he suddenly remembered his identity.

Latulip’s social worker then discovered that he was on a missing persons list, before DNA tests carried out by the police revealed that Latulip was indeed the correct match.

Commenting on the amazing discovery, Constable Philip Gavin, from the Niagara Regional Police, said:

“I’ve been a police officer for 18 years and this is something I’ve seen on TV but never been a part of”.
