If only the people of Westmeath had this feature…

Many, many weird and wonderful products emerged at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week. In fact, keep an eye out as we will have a feature on the best things to come out of Las Vegas up on JOE in the very near future.

But on the back of the piece we just did on some atrocious parking in Athlone, we hope that this bit of kit hits the market ASAP.

Produced by Audi this is a feature called Piloted Parking for the Audi Connect. The Connect is the name Audi have for their in-car brain and they demonstrated just one feature of what a Connect enabled Audi A7 can do here.

Using a specially designed Smartphone app, when you reach your destination you just hop out and the car goes off and finds its own parking space. The clip shows the car doing just that in a multi-storey car par. Whether it could perform the same trick in Thurles on Munster hurling final day remains to be seen.

Anyway, you go about your business and when you’re done, you just press another button and the car comes back to pick you up, all without you ever doing anything more than one button press.

Sadly, it seems the boffins at Audi still haven’t worked out a way for the car to pick up the ticket, pay for it and make sure the barrier is raised yet but we’re sure they are working on it.

Whatever the limitations, it is still pretty cool.
