How have we never heard of this lyrical genius before?
Ireland is and always has been a nation of storytellers and there isn’t a town or village in the country where there isn’t at least one character who can leave an audience hanging on his or her every word.
In Aherlow in Tipperary, it seems that that character is one Mike Colbert, who left an audience in Moroney’s bar spellbound with his tale of a Kerry dog who was, quite literally, fond of taking the piss.
Like many an Irish storyteller Colbert wasn’t content just to tell the story but even got up on all fours on the counter to tell it, inserting various gestures and actions when the need arose.

There must be something in the water down in Aherlow, which many of you may will know as the home of ‘Effin’ Eddie Moroney, the man behind arguably the most famous GAA commentary of all time.
