Video: The traffic in this Indian city is just a bit mental to say the least

The approach to jay-walking in Ireland is relaxed to say the least, but you wouldn’t dare try and cross the road in Hyderabad in India until the coast was clear. If it is ever clear that is.

We tend to curse our roads when there’s a bad tailback on the M50 or when we’re stuck behind a slow tractor on a country road and don’t have enough room to pass it out, but our traffic problems are minor compared to what goes on elsewhere in the world.

We’re not sure when exactly the video below was filmed, but the footage, taken from the Indian city of Hyderabad, appeared on Live Leak recently and it’s been a long time since we’ve seen city streets as manic as these ones.

The population of Hyderabad is up on 7 million people so we imagine their inhabitants are used to this sort of thing, that certainly seems to be the case with the gentleman who weaves his way through the many cars, motorbikes and vans flying towards him to cross the road early in the clip.

While this may have been a particularly busy time of day, the video below from a few years back seems to indicate that this is indeed a daily occurrence.

Needless to say if we ever go on holiday there, we’ll be using taxis and public transport rather than taking our chances behind the wheel.
