Video: This footage of Dublin pubs throughout history will make you want to have a pint on memory lane

A pint of nostalgia

Carl Kinsella

Have a pint on memory lane.

YouTube channel Publin have published a montage of old-school pub footage that will make you wistful for the time when a pint would cost you 16 pence, everyone wore a hat of some description and there wasn’t a smartphone in sight.

Many of the pubs featured in the video are still standing. The footage opens with a look inside The Long Hall pub on George’s Street, replete with cigarette-smoke and old men drinking from unbranded pint glasses.

The videos also take a look at some of Dublin’s other favourite pubs such as Davy Byrne’s and the recently closed Lord Edward. There’s also an inside-look at the Stag’s Head, shot in 1969. It is remarkable how little the bar has changed.

If there’s two things that we love in this country, it’s alcohol and nostalgia. These videos are a delicious mix of the two and should not be missed.

The Publin YouTube channel makes it clear that much of the footage comes from Lorcan Film Unit and Leslie Crowe.
