The synth pop trio are about to take-off in a big way…

You may remember a few months ago when JOE tipped Years & Years as one band to watch in the upcoming months and it didn’t take long for the Londoners career to go stratospheric.

They’ve just won the prestigious BBC Music Sound Of 2015 and to put this into perspective, last year’s winner was Sam Smith whose Grammy nominated debut album has sold millions of copies around the world.

Previous winners have also included Adele, HAIM and Ellie Goulding amongst others.

Speaking with The Guardian, Years & Years frontman Olly Alexander said, “It’s pretty overwhelming, it’s a mixture of emotions – mainly so grateful and happy that we’ve got this recognition, but also quite terrified of crashing and burning!”.

James Bay was in second followed by unsigned artist Stormzy in third. Atlanta singer-songwriter Raury was fourth while spoken word artist George The Poet was fifth.

Derry teenager SOAK was also short-listed for the prize and while she didn’t win we really think that her career is about to take-off in 2015. Take a look at her amazing performance for our own Sunday Sessions.
