Young people are having less sex now than previous generations

We live in an age where a ‘hook-up’ culture is commonly referred to and Tinder is all the rage among single and some not-so-single people.

But it turns out the ’90s kids and millennials are having less sex than previous generations.

According to a study published in the journal, Archives of Sexual Behaviour, 15% of 20-24-year-olds have not had any sexual partners since they turned 18.

The study shows that with the previous generation, the rate was just 6% during the same age bracket.

It was also found that sexual inactivity has increased more in women than in men and a variety of factors affected the rate of sexual encounters.

So why the big change in the current rate of people “gettin’ jiggy wit it”?

The lead researcher on the study, Jean Twenge, believes that economic circumstances have played a role in the shift (to having less sex, not the actual shift), with young people more likely to be living at home rather than having their own places.

But Twenge also points out that technology could be to blame for the fall in promiscuity, with some people more concerned with catching Pokemon and posting pictures of their food on Instagram than doing the no pants dance.

Technology has a lot to answer for…
