Here are the 10 best movies on the telly tonight

Rory Cashin

Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Liam Neeson, and… Colin Farrell again?

A lot to chose from tonight on the box.

Provided, of course, that you’re not heading to the local cinema to check out one of the new releases there, which we’ve reviewed in full in the latest episode of The Big Reviewski:

If you are insisting on couch-ing it up, then you’ve got a lot to choose from…

SATURDAY 29 SEPTEMBER

Yes Man – ITV2 – 5.50pm

The one when Jim Carrey decides to say “YES!” to everything, which helps turn his life around for the better. Arguably the last properly enjoyable Jim Carrey comedy? Discuss.

Quantum Of Solace – ITV2 – 7.45pm

Daniel Craig’s second outing as Bond was also maybe his worst of the four so far, but is still plenty entertaining thanks to some great action set-pieces and a truly weird villain.

Sphere – Syfy – 8.00pm

Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, and Samuel L. Jackson are caught at the bottom of the ocean with a crashed spaceship and an apparently evil alien presence. From the author of Jurassic Park, but not the same director. Take from that what you will…

Lucy – Channel 4 – 9.00pm

Scar-Jo takes some top-secret drugs which speed along her development from normal human being to a kind of all-powerful god. It made nearly half a billion at the box office, mostly because it is a one-of-a-kind action movie that comes along very rarely.

In Bruges – Film Four – 9.00pm

Colin Farrell. Brendan Gleeson. One of the best comedies of all time. What more do you need to know? Maybe that Ralph Fiennes is incredible as the antagonist? Yep, that’ll do it.

Ocean’s Twelve – Sky One – 9.00pm

Not as good as Eleven or Thirteen (or Eight), but still somewhat fun, thanks to the addition of Catherine Zeta-Jones as the agent hunting the gang down, and Vincent Cassel as the ego-maniac convinced he is the best thief in the world.

Casino Royale – RTE 2 – 9.15pm

Daniel Craig’s FIRST outing as Bond, and arguably the best of the lot? It depends on whether you like the rugged, rough ‘n’ ready nature of this over the slick and stylish nature of Skyfall. But Skyfall isn’t on tonight, so this is going to have to do.

Non-Stop – Channel 4 – 10.45pm

Truth be told… this isn’t a good movie. But it is a FUN movie, as Liam Neeson finds himself on board a plane with Julianne Moore (seriously, YOU are better than THIS, Julianne), Lupita Nyong’o, Scoot McNairy and Corey Stoll, convinced there is a terrorist plot on board, and making himself the primary suspect of being a terrorist in the process.

An American Werewolf In London – Film Four – 11.10pm

One of the greatest horror movies of all time. If you’ve never seen it, do yourself a favour tonight.

Fright Night – Syfy – 11.30pm

Colin Farrell is a vampire, Toni Collette and the late Anton Yelchin are the mother and son who cross his path, and David Tennant is the Vegas performer who might be able to help. A bonkers horror-comedy.
