Here are the 10 best movies on TV today

Rory Cashin

There are going to be some tough decisions to make this evening…

Everyone else is at EP. Maybe go to the cinema? We’ve reviewed all of the new releases in the latest episode of The Big Reviewski (check that out right here), but if you’re insistent is sitting on the couch, then we’ve got the best movies on the telly tonight right here.

On top of some great comedies, some great action, and some great thrillers, there are also – inexplicably – THREE so-bad-they’re-great vampire movies on tonight…

SATURDAY 1 SEPTEMBER

Titanic – Film 4 – 3.05pm

Well. There is all of your afternoon and the majority of your evening sorted.

The LEGO Movie – RTE One – 7.10pm

We stand by the fact that this is still one of the funniest movies of the last decade.

Oblivion – Channel 4 – 8.00pm

An unfairly overlooked sci-fi action thriller, with Tom Cruise one of the last few people left on Earth who begins to think there is a lot more going on with mankind’s exodus of the planet than he has been led to believe.

Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion – Universal TV – 8.00pm

Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino star in this truly bonkers but still properly hilarious comedy about two quirky BFFs who need to re-learn how to love their own uniqueness.

Tremors – ITV4 – 9.00pm

Kevin Bacon and co. are isolated in a Deep South town, trying to survive an attack by huge, man-eating worms. A cult-classic comedy-horror, the kind of movie that they just don’t make anymore.

Hot Fuzz – RTE Two – 9.35pm

After Shaun Of The Dead, before The World’s End, this middle chapter in The Cornetto Trilogy sees Nick Frost and Simon Pegg as unlikely partners who find themselves with a serial killer in their sleepy little village.

Gone Girl – BBC Two – 10.00pm

Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike send shivers up the spines of every happy couple in the audience thanks to this adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s (Sharp Objects) novel, directed by David Fincher. Psychological warfare has never looked this good.

Dracula Untold – Film 4 – 11.15pm

So Bad Its Good Vampire Movie #1: with Luke Evans in the middle of a Game Of Thrones-esque war movie. Plus there are vampires.

Fright Night – BBC One – 12.15am

So Bad Its Good Vampire Movie #2: with Colin Farrell as a sexy Vegas vampire who seduces Anton Yelchin’s mum, played by Toni Collette.

Van Helsing – ITV2 – 12.25am

So Bad Its Good Vampire Movie #3: with Hugh Jackman as a vampire hunter, teaming up with Kate Beckinsale, and more terrible CGI than one human brain can manage.
