Get to the biggest, loudest screen possible for this one…
We hope you like Timothee Chalamet, because you’re going to be seeing a lot of him this week!
The latest episode of The Big Reviewski can be watched in full below or you can skip to the cinema reviews (5:40), home entertainment recommendations (13:40), and classic re-watches (17:00).
Here are the new cinema releases, which will all be available on the big screens around Ireland from Friday, 22 October.
DUNE
The director of Sicario, Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 takes on the huge sci-fi story of warring space dynasties, packed with cutting edge special effects and an outrageously stacked cast including Timothee Chalamet, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista and loads more.
THE FRENCH DISPATCH
Wes Anderson’s love letter both to journalism and to cinema in general also features Timothee Chalamet and another ridiculously decked out cast-list (Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton, Saoirse Ronan, on and on we could go). If you’ve loved Anderson’s previous kooky comedies, then you’ll love this one, too.
THE BOSS BABY 2: FAMILY BUSINESS
The first Boss Baby movie made over $500 million at the box office when it was released back in 2018, so it should come as no surprise that a sequel has arrived. Alec Baldwin returns as the baby who is also a boss, this time trying to stop a scientist (Jeff Goldblum) from erasing childhoods.
DEAR EVAN HANSEN
Amy Adams, Julianne Moore, Kaitlyn Dever and more star in this musical drama about a teenager (Ben Platt) who suffers from social anxiety, but finds himself at the centre of a local tragedy. With 30% on Rotten Tomatoes, it is probably worth giving a miss, to be honest…
And now on to the stuff you can watch at home this week, starting with…
NIGHT TEETH
Do you remember the movie Collateral? This is essentially that, except the Tom Cruise character is played by two female vampires, with a man being forced to drive them around the city against his will. Night Teeth is available to watch on Netflix right now.
AMERICAN HORROR STORY: DOUBLE FEATURE
The AHS series is as popular as ever, with the latest season split into two, much like an old-school drive-in experience. So the first half of the season sees the cast play out a horror story by the sea, and the second half, the same cast play different characters in a different story, set in the middle of the desert. AHS: Double Feature is available to watch on Disney+.
And finally, the amazingly exciting Pizza And A Movie section, which will be focusing on spooky movies for the month of October…
Here are this week’s picks, with the vote once again going up on JOE’s Instagram channel, so keep an eye out on that to have your say!
Rory’s Pick – THE EVIL DEAD (1981)
Celebrating its 40th ANNIVERSARY this month, Sam Raimi’s low-budget, lo-fi chiller remains one of the very best horror movies of all time. The Evil Dead is available to watch on NOW right now.
Eoghan’s Pick – SHAUN OF THE DEAD
If you’re not a big spooky movie fan, then maybe this fantastic rom-zom-com is more up your street. Shaun of the Dead is available to watch on Netflix right now.
