Gotta get down on Friday.
Fridays are never the best nights for movies because, I guess, the executives who make these decisions might assume you have better things to do.
But you and I both know that’s not the case. And that’s why we’ve scoured around for the best movies on TV this Friday.
Bridemaids – 9pm – ITV2
One of the more iconic comedies of recent years. Crude and gross and very funny.
Selma – 9.15pm – RTÉ One
David Oyelowo stars as the iconic civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jnr in a fact-based drama that tells the story of the voting rights marches between Selma and Montgomery. Directed by Ava DuVernay, who is perhaps now better known for the Netflix miniseries When They See Us.
First Blood – 10.45pm – UTV
You may have heard recently that Sly Stallone is reprising his role as John Rambo in Last Blood, but First Blood is where it all began. Features Stallone as a traumatised Vietnam vet who has to take down a whole bunch of corrupt cops. It’s a thing of beauty.
Drive – 11pm – SyFy
Maybe Ryan Gosling’s best-known performance. Here he plays a stoic stunt-driver who ends up in over his head in the world of organised crime. One of the best soundtracks of any movie, ever.
In the Heat of the Night – 11.35pm – BBC Two
An Oscar-winning drama from 1967, starring the legendary Sidney Poitier. It won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Rob Steiger. Long story short, if you feel like a bit of proper art this evening, this is the film to watch.
