Here are the 6 best movies on TV this evening

Rory Cashin

TV on. Brain off.

Either you were at EP and you’re still recovering, or you weren’t and now you’ve got severe FOMO.

Both situations leave you with a Tuesday when you’re not sure what to do with yourself, and might we recommend some movies?

Either at the cinema, or in the comfort of your own home:

TUESDAY 3 SEPTEMBER

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One – Film4 – 6.40pm

The one after the best one (Catching Fire) and before the all-action war one (Mockingjay Part Two), but still entertaining and daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaark, with Jennifer Lawrence really selling the idea of both needing to be the front of a rebellion, and hating being used as such.

The World Is Not Enough – ITV4 – 9pm

Brosnan’s third outing as Bond has another killer theme song (from Garbage), and some decent villains (Robert Carlyle can’t feel pain, you guys!), but this was around the point when some of the set pieces got too ridiculous for their own good (that weird helicopter saw thing?) before they lost the plot completely with Die Another Day.

Spider-Man – Syfy – 9pm

Tobey Maguire’s first outing as the web-slinger. 17 years later, we’ve had a handful of great successors in the spandex, but this first time round is stolen completely by Willem Dafoe’s absolutely demented turn as the Green Goblin.

Lakeview Terrace – Horror Channel – 9pm

Patrick Wilson and Kerry Washington move into their lush new home, only to realise that their cop neighbour (Samuel L. Jackson) is angered by their interracial relationship. When a large wildfire breaks out in the woods surrounding their homes, things go from bad to worse.

Hunger – Film4 – 11.10pm

Michael Fassbender is phenomenal as Bobby Sands in this take on the 1981 hunger strikes by Republican prisoners in Northern Ireland.

Wanted – ITV4 – 12.40am

Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman and more star in this OTT action film about a league of assassins who dictate the future of the world. A lot of fun, as long as you don’t take any of it too seriously
