Even more Game of Thrones!

With just three episodes to go until we say goodbye to Game of Thrones – cue us crying worse than a guest at the Red Wedding – the war for the Iron Throne is now in its final stages.

However, given the ferocious demand for all things Westeros, Essos, Bravos, Volantis, The Lands of Always Winter etc, it should come as no surprise to learn that HBO aren’t quite done yet with Martin’s fantasy world.

We already know that a pilot for Jane Goldman’s prequel show is being made with Naomi Watts in the lead.

In terms of the plot, we’re told that the show will be: “Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”

If you want a deep dive about what that prequel might involve, you can read all about it here.

However, that’s not the only project that HBO are currently developing because as previously reported, a few other writers are working on projects in tandem with Martin.

A few weeks ago, we sadly learned that Bryan Cogman’s spinoff is dead in the water but much like a drinking session with Tyrion and The Hound, we’re extremely happy to say that George R.R. Martin has some good news for fans of the saga.

In a blog post published on Saturday, the author offered an update on the status of the other Game of Thrones-based TV series in the works because, as he puts it, “Internet reports are notoriously unreliable.”

“We have had five different Game of Thrones successor shows in development (I mislike the term ‘spin-offs’) at HBO, and three of them are still moving forward nicely,” Martin wrote.

“The one I am not supposed to call The Long Night will be shooting later this year, and two other shows remain in the script stage, but are edging closer. What are they about? I cannot say. But maybe some of you should pick up a copy of Fire & Blood and come up with your own theories,” he said.

Fire & Blood is Martin’s latest book and it chronicles the history of House Targaryen.

We’re praying to the Gods – both old and new – that at least one of the new spinoffs is about Aegon’s Conquest, Robert’s Rebellion, or the Doom of Valyria.

Bring it on!
