There are some genuine modern classics on the box tonight.
Truth be told, sometimes putting this list together can prove difficult, because there are some days that just don’t have a huge amount of decent movies on.
Today is not one of those days…
WEDNESDAY 10 OCTOBER
Ted – ITV2 – 9.00pm
Mark Wahlberg and his living teddy are BFFs who are forced to confront the fact that they have kept each other in a state of arrested development, and try to help each other grow up a little bit. They also tell thunder to fuck off, so… baby steps.
The Green Mile – Film Four – 9.00pm
Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan star in this epic weepie based on a hit Stephen King novel, telling the story of a prison warden and one of his prisoners, who is very obviously innocent but is still being sent to the electric chair, despite having some supernatural powers.
Executive Decision – TCM – 9.00pm
Kurt Russell, Halle Berry, and Steven Seagal in one of the most shocking scenes in action movie history. Terrorists take over a plane, good guys have to stop them, but with a twist that we’re not going to ruin here…
Green Zone – ITV4 – 10.40pm
Matt Damon reunites with his Bourne director for this Iraq-set action thriller about a group of US soldiers who are sent to find weapons of mass destruction but instead find a huge government conspiracy. Based on a true story.
Drive – Syfy – 11.10pm
Ryan Gosling. A car. That jacket. That hammer. That soundtrack. One of the coolest movies ever made.
Black Swan – Channel 4 – 12.35am
Natalie Portman won the Oscar for her role in this horror movie about a perfectionist ballet dancer who finds herself being driven to insanity in the lead up to her company’s biggest performance to date.
The Raid 2 – Film Four – 12.45am
Bigger, longer, and more violent than the original, and arguably just as good. Gone is the claustrophobic single location setting, and in its place is a sprawling, city-wide tale of revenge and double-crosses.
