An above average night for films on the telly.
Monday.
Back at the start of the week again.
Maybe you had a full weekend, and are in need of a bit of a breather.
May we recommend a movie? Or maybe even more than one?
There are some great new releases in the cinema this week (we’ve reviewed them all right here), but if you’re already all caught up on the big screen, here are some movies to catch on the small screen.
Or whatever size screen you have in your home…
MONDAY 8 JULY
Star Trek Into Darkness – E4 – 8pm
Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, and Benedict Cumberbatch star in this darker-and-bigger-but-not-exactly-better sequel that still has plenty of Space ‘Splosions to keep you more than entertained.
Superman II – Sky One – 8pm
Superman is forced to take on Zod in this underappreciated sequel, which features Terrence Stamp in fine form as the big bad guy.
Taken – FilmFour – 9pm
The original and best of the “Liam Neeson is mad about stuff” series of movies.
Patriots Day – RTE Two – 9pm
Mark Wahlberg is the Boston PD officer who is caught up in attempting to find the terrorists who bombed the marathon. Real-life thriller and much better than it is given credit for, with an incredible score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
The Other Guys – Comedy Central – 9pm
Mark Wahlberg again, but this time paired up with Will Ferrell, playing two cops who try to take on a huge case after their precinct’s two best officers are killed in the line of duty. To be fair, that doesn’t SOUND very funny, but trust us, it is VERY funny.
The Relic – Syfy – 11pm
Trashy but incredibly fun sci-fi horror starring Penelope Ann Miller, Tom Sizemore, and Linda Hunt, as a group of scientists who accidentally release a blood-thirsty creature in the Chicago Museum.
Psycho – TCM – 11.10pm
The 1960, Alfred Hitchcock-directed original, still regarding as one of the best (horror) movies of all time.
