American Gangster – ITV4 – 10.00pm

Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Josh Brolin, Cuba Gooding Jr., Carla Gugino, Idris Elba, Common, and more star in Ridley Scott 1970’s gangster epic.

The Night Before – Comedy Central – 10.00pm

Seth Rogen, Anthony Mackie, and Joseph Gordon Levitt star in this underappreciated gem about three best friends on their last Christmas together as best friends before they’re all forced to grow up and go their separate ways. Also features Michael Shannon in one of the funniest cinematic performances of all time.

Kingpin – Universal TV – 10.10pm

Bill Murray and Woody Harrelson headline this bonkers and brilliant comedy about the surprisingly competitive world of bowling.

Argo – RTE Two – 10.30pm

Winner of Best Picture, this has Ben Affleck and co. tell the true story of a group of government agents pretending to make a movie in Tehran, just so they can attempt to smuggle out American hostages being kept there.

The Survivalist – FilmFour – 11.35pm

Martin McCann (Bono in Killing Bono) plays a man surviving alone in the post-apocalypse who finds his world turned upside down by the arrival of two strange women. A low-key gem.

A Date For Mad Mary – Virgin Media One – 12.05am

One of the best Irish movies of the decade.

Get Up & Go – RTE Two – 12.40am

Peter Coonan and Killian Scott play two best mates who are forced to look at their co-dependent friendship and how they might be each other’s reasons they have just to make a life for themselves.
