Here are the 9 best movies on TV this Saturday evening

Carl Kinsella

Three classic action sequels.

It’s Saturday, and there’s every chance you’re going to be well worn out this evening after a full day of sport. Thankfully, there are many movies to choose from, including some classic action flicks, and an Oscar-nominated sports biopic.

Bad Neighbours – E4 – 9pm

An extremely dumb-funny comedy where a family moves next door to a frat house led by Zac Efron. Also stars Seth Rogen.

Spectre – ITV2 – 9pm

James Bond goes rogue.

Lethal Weapon 2 – ITV4 – 9.05pm

This is the one where the diplomat is able to launder drugs money because he has diplomatic immunity — something which we’re pretty sure doesn’t really hold up in real life. Riggs and Murtaugh have to take him down. Stars Mel Gibson, Danny Glover and Joe Pesci.

Rambo – Sky One – 10pm

Because of the confusing way in which the movies are titled, Rambo is actually the second film in the Rambo series. Don’t worry if you’ve never seen the first one though, it’s easy enough to pick up what’s going on.

Die Hard 2 – Channel 4 – 10.55pm

Bruce Willis stars in his most iconic role – John McClane – wearing a vest and killing bad guys. It’s not as good as the first one, but it’s still among the best action films ever made.

Bad Neighbours 2 – RTÉ 2 – 11pm

Once the first one is finished on E4 you can check the sequel on RTÉ Two.

The Talented Mr. Ripley – BBC Two NI – 11.15pm

A psychological thriller where Tom Ripley, played by Matt Damon, scams his way into the high life. Sort of like Catch Me If You Can but darker. Starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Cate Blanchett.

Ali – ITV 4 – 11.25pm

Will Smith proves, once again, what a great actor he can be with his note-perfect encapsulation of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali.

Airplane II: The Sequel – Comedy Central – 11.45pm

A computer malfunction sends the spacecraft hurtling toward the sun, while a man driven mad by sexual inadequacy smuggles a bomb on board. One of the most iconic comedies ever made.
