We could do an awful lot worse.
It seems like Daniel Craig is relinquishing the fancy cars and laser-gun pens that come with being James Bond and leaving a big pair of shiny black 007 shoes to fill…
There haven’t been many rumours about who’s next in line to join Her Majesty’s Secret Service but Tom Hiddleston has been the bookies’ favourite since the rumours of Craig’s abdication came about.
In addition to Hiddleston, the internet has long-clamoured for Idris Elba to be cast as the first black James Bond in what would not only be a show of diversity but an acknowledgment of an extremely talented actor.
Perhaps a similar case could be made for Gillian Anderson, most famous for her role as Dana Scully in The X-Files, who appeared to throw her hat in the ring via her Twitter.
The actress tweeted a mock-up image of herself as Bond alongside a caption that read “It’s Bond. Jane Bond… #NextBond”
It's Bond. Jane Bond.
Thanks for all the votes! (And sorry, don't know who made poster but I love it!) #NextBond pic.twitter.com/f8GC4ZuFgL— Gillian Anderson (@GillianA) May 21, 2016
Needless to say, Twitter did what Twitter does best – it erupted:
