This Netflix show is a must-watch for February.
Netflix has just added Apple Cider Vinegar, an addictive new drama that is one of the best shows I’ve watched.
Described as a “true-ish story based on a lie”, the limited series sees Kaitlyn Dever play Belle Gibson, an Australian wellness influencer who claims to have cured her terminal brain cancer through health and wellness.
“Sounds unlikely? That’s because it is,” the Netflix plot synopsis adds. “As it turns out, Belle has never actually been diagnosed with — or cured of — the malignant brain tumour that she shares with the world through social media, the mobile app she develops, and its companion cookbook.”
I’d never heard of the story of Belle Gibson before tuning into the series and couldn’t wrap my head around it.
I flew through the six episodes in one sitting because I was completely gripped by the story unfolding on screen.
Apple Cider Vinegar is an enthralling but uncomfortable watch because it highlights how far people will go for fame.
The show also highlights how damaging social media can be and the harmful pedestals we put influencers on.
What really stuck with me was how everyone believed Gibson and followed her advice with some even ignoring their doctors.
Not only did she lie about having multiple cancers, but she also lied to people about ‘curing’ it with a healthy lifestyle. A lie far too many people believed.
Alongside Dever, the cast of the series includes Aisha Dee, Alycia Debnam-Carey and Tilda Cobham-Hervey.
The story of Belle Gibson’s scandal is told in the book The Woman Who Fooled the World by Australian journalists Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano, which inspired the show.

Apple Cider Vinegar is streaming on Netflix in Ireland and the UK.
If you want to watch it but want to save the cash, you could use this technique with an Amazon Fire Stick to save money.
The trick is something called ‘leapfrogging’, which is a way to skip between shorter, cheaper subscriptions to watch what you want to watch without signing up for expensive year-long contracts.
For example, you can get a basic Netflix package for €8.99, and stream what you want to watch via your Fire Stick and cancel it before your next bill.
You can then take advantage of the free trials of other services without signing up for them, all from the same place on your Fire Stick, so it’s super easy and convenient!
