AUDIO: “He was rare and we won’t see his like again.” Pauline McLynn pays lovely tribute to the late Frank Kelly

Conor Heneghan

Lovely words.

Ireland lost a giant of the acting world yesterday when the great Frank Kelly passed away aged 77.

Kelly, of course, will be remembered by everyone for playing Father Jack Hackett in Father Ted, but he had a stellar career on stage and screen that spanned over 60 years and included roles in Glenroe, Emmerdale and Hall’s Pictorial Weekly.

His Father Ted co-star, Pauline McLynn (Mrs. Doyle), appeared on the Anton Savage Show on Today FM and paid him a wonderful tribute as she reminisced about their time together on probably the best comedy ever to come out of Ireland.

McLynn became a little emotional towards the end after delivering some lovely words about her co-star, of whom she said, “we won’t see his like again”.

Very well said, Pauline.
