Two of the best comic book movies ever made, as well as one genuine Tarantino classic.
Heading to the cinema? You should, cos there are some great new releases (Ant-Man & The Wasp, Teen Titans Go To The Movies), as well as some great movies still out (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Mamma Mia Here We Go Again), and we reviewed them all and more in the latest episode of The Big Reviewski, which you can check out right here:
However, if you are sitting in tonight, there are no less than TEN movies to choose from…
SATURDAY 4 AUGUST
Home Alone – 6.55pm – Film 4
One of the best Christmas movies of all time. In the middle of a massive heatwave. Because why not?
The Croods – 7.05pm – RTE One
Nic Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone and Catherine Keener add their vocal talents to this very funny animated feature about a family of Neanderthals who are forced out of the safety of their cave and they end up crossing paths with early civilised man.
X-Men 2 – 8.00pm – E4
Yep, even these 15 years later, this is still one of the best comic book movies of all time, as the action gets bigger, the stories get darker, and the performances get better.
2012 – 8.00pm – SyFy
After this movie, how can anyone ever attempt to make a disaster movie ever again? This is pretty much EVERY disaster movie rolled into one, as hurricanes, tidal waves, volcanoes, earthquakes and everything in between pummeling the planet into submission.
Sisters – 9.00pm – Channel 4
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are sisters who decide to have one last giant party in their childhood home before their parents sell it. And when Fey and Poehler throw a party, they THROW a PARTY.
Everest – 9.55pm – RTE One
An all-star cast – Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, Kiera Knightley, Jason Clarke, Sam Worthington, Robin Wright, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Kelly – feature in this visually incredible retelling of a true story in which two groups of climbers attempt to survive the descent from the world’s highest peak as a deadly storm closes in on them.
Pulp Fiction – 10.00pm – Comedy Central
Seriously though, what was in that briefcase?
Iron Man 3 – 10.10pm – BBC One
The most divisive of the MCU movies, primarily because they changed so much about the origin story of the comic book’s big bad guy The Mandarin. Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley, and Rebecca Hall join the action this time, as Tony suffers from PTSD following the events of the first Avengers movie, and he is forced to find his strength outside of his Iron Man suit.
Cabin In The Woods – 11.05pm – Film 4
Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Connolly, Jesse Williams, Bradley Whitford, and Richard Jenkins star in the smartest deconstruction of the horror genre since Scream, as a group of sexy “teens” head to a cabin in the woods and… well, things go very violently wrong from them once they get there.
Spirited Away – 12.55am – Film 4
One of the best animated movies ever made. Read all about it right here.
