Here are the best movies on TV this evening

Could I interest you in… staying indoors?

We’re not as cooped up as we once were, but as Ireland’s top doctors warn of a return the harsher days of lockdown, you might be better advised staying in this evening.

Here are some of the best movies on TV in case you do decide to keep it to the couch tonight.

Pretty Woman – 9pm – RTÉ2

Ruthless millionaire Richard Gere hires endearing prostitute Julia Roberts as part of some scheme, but they inevitably fall in love. Aww.

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery – 9pm – Comedy Central

Mike Myers in his most iconic role (bar maybe Shrek). Might not hold the same kind of appeal today but will be a nostalgic and funny watch for many.

Blade Runner 2049 – 9pm – ITV2

Ryan Gosling stars in the modern follow-up to the legendary sci-fi flick. Not quite as good as the original, but worth a watch.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri – 9.15pm – Channel 4

A painfully moving and dramatic film, written by Martin McDonagh. Starring Francis McDormand as a mother seeking justice over the rape and death of her daughter, and Woody Harrelson as a cancer-suffering well-meaning police chief. Really good.

Silence – 10pm – TG4

An Irish film about a man who travels across Europe recording mysterious man-made sounds.

The Blues Brothers – 10.10pm – ITV4

Iconic and charming musical comedy starring Saturday Night Live legends Dan Aykroyd and the late John Belushi. A very uplifting and fun affair.

Short Term 12 – 11.55pm – BBC One NI

Brie Larson is a counsellor at a foster home and has to help kids work for a better future, while dealing with her own difficult past.

Jackie – 11.30pm – Channel 4

Natalie Portman gives a stellar performance as Jackie Kennedy, shortly after the assassination of her husband.
