Here are the best movies on TV this evening

Alan Loughnane

It’s Wednesday.

While we’re not spoiled for choice with our movie options this evening, we have seen darker days recently.

There’s a couple of decent picks and there’s even an Oscar winner.

Here’s the pick of the movies on this evening.

Gifted – Film4 – 6.55pm

The story of Mary, a little girl who has been raised — and so far home-schooled — by her uncle Frank (Chris Evans), following the death of her mother.

The Great Wall – Film4 – 9pm

Matt Damon and Pedro Pascal go on an ancient adventure in 11th century China.

There’s some creepy monsters involved.

The King’s Speech – RTÉ2 – 9.30pm

Oscar-winning movie about how King George V needs to overcome his speech impediment before World War II starts.

Colin Firth is quite good in it though.

Prisoners – Film4 – 11.05pm

Two families are pushed to the edge when their young daughters go missing.

The film poses the question, how far would you go to protect your family?

The World’s End – ITV4 – 11.30pm

The final entry in the Cornetto Trilogy sees Simon Pegg and Nick Frost joined by Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman and Eddie Marsan attempt to complete an age-old pub-crawl in their hometown, but obviously there’s a bit more to it than that…
