In between filming the fourth season of the amazing Arrested Development and watching reruns of Happy Days, Ron Howard has found time to direct the Formula One feature film, Rush.
By Eoghan Doherty
Rush, disappointingly, is not the story of Ian Rush’s moustache, but instead tells the story of Formula One driver Niki Lauda and the 1976 crash that almost cost him his life. Just 42 days later he was back racing again though in order to challenge one of his great rivals, English driver James Hunt.
Howard has assembled an excellent cast for his based-on-a-true story F1 flick, with Avengers alumnus Chris Hemsworth playing the James ‘the Shunt’ Hunt and the excellent, underrated German actor Daniel Brühl playing the legendary Niki Lauda.
And, as much we’re big fans of Chris Hemsworth, his Brit accent does seem a wee bit suspect sometimes. Olivia Wilde we’ll forgive though. Double standards wha?
Although the trailer does seem to give away a lot of the plot itself (yes, we know it’s a true story) and looks like it will have more cheese in it than a triple-decker cheesy cheese sandwich, the actual racing scenes look incredibly impressive.
Just read this quote from JOE’s resident F1 expert: “yeah, the actual racing scenes look incredibly impressive.”
See?

Rush will be released in Irish cinemas September 2013
