Children of the 90s rejoice, Zig and Zag are making a comeback

Thank Zog for that

Conor Heneghan

Thank Zog for that.

The appeal of Zig and Zag will probably be lost on our younger readers, but mention of the puppets’ names will provide an instant dose of warm and fuzzy nostalgia for anyone who grew up in the late 80s to mid 90s.

Famous for their roles on The Den and 2 Phat (that’s a blast from the past) on RTE and on The Big Breakfast on Channel 4, Zig and Zag enjoyed a status somewhere between Bosco and Pat Kenny Dustin amongst non-human RTE stars and that’s saying something.

The puppets, voiced by Ciaran Morrison and Mick O’Hara, have made fleeting appearances in recent years, but they’re going to be back on an extended run in a 26-episode animated series that will air on RTEjr next year.

The series is a joint project between between RTÉjr and CBBC and will be completed in partnership with Double Z Enterprises, Flickerpix and Jam Media.

Welcome back lads, we’ve missed you.
