The show is due to return for its seventh season in 2025.
Irish actor Chris O’Dowd is set to star in Netflix’s dystopian anthology series Black Mirror.
Famous for his work in The IT Crowd, Bridesmaids and Moone Boy, O’Dowd will join a star-studded cast for the show’s upcoming seventh season that also includes Awkwafina, Emma Corrin, Harriet Walter, Issa Rae, Paul Giamatti, Peter Capaldi, Rashida Jones, Rosy McEwen, Tracee Ellis Ross among others.
While Netflix is keeping details of the new season under wraps, it has been confirmed that one episode will be a sequel to the fan-favourite USS Callister from Season 4.
Several cast members from that Star Trek-inspired episode will also be returning including Billy Magnussen, Cristin Milioti and Jimmi Simpson.
Created by Charlie Brooker, Black Mirror has been praised for its sharp critique of modern society and its eerie speculative storytelling, drawing comparisons to the classic anthology The Twilight Zone.
And O’Dowd is no stranger to sci-fi, thanks to his past roles in the recent The Twilight Zone reboot and the Netflix movie The Cloverfield Paradox.
The Irish actor also recently worked on the upcoming Small Town, Big Story, a comedy series he wrote and directed in Ireland.
O’Dowd has not yet commented on his role in the upcoming Black Mirror season but he will be following in the footsteps of fellow Irishmen Domhnall Gleeson and Andrew Scott, who have also starred in previous episodes of the acclaimed series.
Black Mirror season seven is expected to debut on Netflix sometime in 2025.
