A creepy Irish horror is among the movies on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

Game of Thrones’ Liam Cunningham stars as a mysterious stranger.

Looking for a midweek movie option on the box tonight? It just so happens there’s a couple of decent films on this evening to keep you entertained.

Here’s our pick of the lot.

Taken 3 – Film Four – 9pm

Liam Neeson does his thing in this second sequel to a movie that probably didn’t need a follow-up in the first place.

Payback – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

After a successful heist, Porter (Mel Gibson) is left for dead. Once he recovers, he seeks vengeance and his share of the money.

From the director of A Knight’s Tale and Legend, Payback is based on the novel The Hunter by Donald E. Westlake, which had earlier been adapted into the 1967 Lee Marvin-starring noir masterpiece Point Blank.

The Skeleton Key – Horror Channel – 9pm

In this 2005 chiller, a hospice nurse (Kate Hudson) working at a spooky New Orleans plantation home finds herself entangled in a mystery involving the house’s dark past.

Acting heavyweights Gena Rowlands and John Hurt co-star.

Tremors – ITV 4 – 10.30pm

Natives of a small isolated town defend themselves against strange underground creatures which are killing them one by one.

The great Kevin Bacon stars in this acclaimed 1990 horror-comedy.

Let Us Prey – Horror Channel – 11pm

In JOE’s pick for this evening, a young rookie cop (Pollyanna McIntosh) is working her first night shift in a neglected police station in a backwater town when an enigmatic stranger (Liam Cunnigham) shows up and begins to take over the minds and souls of everyone inside.

Boasting a solid 77% score on Rotten Tomatoes, Let Us Prey’s classic premise, two great central performances and striking religious references keep viewers in suspense before the horror’s impressively splattery final act.

Maximum Risk – Turner Classic Movies – 11.10pm

A French cop (Jean-Claude Van Damme) seeks answers over the death of the twin brother he never knew he had.

Mechanic: Resurrection – Film Four – 11.15pm

A so-so Jason Statham action sequel.
