“They’re talking to each other!”
Right from the moment that Sister Michael questioned if Jenny Joyce and her bandmates might have a bit too much time on their hands, the prom/debs/formal episode of Derry Girls was a little bit special.
Truth be told, there was a little bit of needle in the air as Jenny’s decision to introduce a ’50s themed dance prompted another iconic line from Michelle.
“Feel free to kiss my hole!” said Miss Mallon and while Orla did her very best to entice a new friend into the group with some cream crackers, there was a little bit of aggro in the air.
“You’re a lesbian Clare, you’re not desperate,” James attending the “creep convention” and Erin being a bit selfish towards Clare all contributed to the overall niggly sense but just as a fight looked like it was about to break out, we got those lovely moment with Granda Joe, his granddaughter and James showing for Erin at the perfect moment.
Then a fight actually did break out as things went a bit too ‘Carrie’ as tomato juice, digs, and insults went flying around the room!
However, Michelle is always a girl that likes a bit of craic and her choice of dates definitely reflected this. Note how we’re saying dates.
Plural. Two fellas!
What was her grand plan? Stick the two lads in separate corners of the room and hope that they don’t talk to each other.
Ultimately, the lads went to the pub together as the evening decided into some Carrie-inspired chaos but much like Season 1, things ended on an optimistic note as Ma Mary and Da Gerry learned about the ceasefire in Northern Ireland.
The celebrations of peace were joyous but there was carnage on the main stage of the school prom. At least Michelle has a story to tell…
