Excellent news Simpsons fans, Harry Shearer is returning to the show

Great news

Great news.

Less than two months after announcing he was leaving The Simpsons, one of the show’s principal voice actors, Harry Shearer, is now set to return for Seasons 27 and 28.

Shearer, the voice of Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders and Principal Skinner amongst others, originally announced his intention to leave because of contractual difficulties, but according to Entertainment Weekly, he has now signed on for the next two seasons, along with all the other principal voice actors.

Shearer’s issues were less to do with money (Shearer and the other main voice actors reportedly earn in excess of $300,000 per episode) but the freedom to work on other projects.

Whatever issues there were appear to be resolved, as The Simpsons confirmed this evening that all of the principal actors had been signed.

While Shearer’s return is a welcome development for Simpsons fans, it is unlikely address what most fans accept is the declining quality of the show since its peak in the mid to late 90s.

Still, for now, forgive us for being at least a little bit happy at the news…
