GIF: The major clue suggesting Maggie was Mr. Burns’ would-be killer in one of the most famous Simpsons episodes

How had we never seen this before?

It was literally staring us in the face all along.

It was first aired nearly 20 years ago at this stage but few fans of The Simpsons will ever forget the ‘Who shot Mr. Burns?’ episodes, which remain two of the most famous and most-loved episodes in the history of probably the greatest show of all time.

Because a long gap separated Part One and Part Two of those episodes (Part One closed Season Six, Part Two opened Season Seven), there was huge intrigue and interest amongst the public at the time about the identity of the would-be assassin.

So much so, in fact, that only one member of the animation team was made aware of their identity in the build-up to the concluding episode.

Although Mr. Burns eventually identifies Maggie as his ‘attempted killer’ upon waking from his coma, it turns out there was a giveaway clue before that in Part One.

While it could have already been revealed in the intervening years, we certainly weren’t aware of its existence before it was brought up by Reddit user scarface910 in recent days.

Watch how, when Mr. Burns asks if anyone has the guts to stop him from erecting his controversial sun blocker, everyone looks away except one person…

Forget the baby with the one eyebrow (Gerald), this goes to show that Maggie Simpson is by far and away the deadliest toddler in Springfield.
