Do you agree or is it just an ecumenical matter?
A few weeks ago, we told you that a popular Father Ted fansite was running a unique World Cup to discover the most beloved episode of the iconic show. In a straight shoot-out between A Song For Europe and Kicking Bishop Brennan Up The Arse, there was one clear winner.
I mean, they’re both great but as much as we love My Lovely Horse, it has nothing on the fact that Dick Byrne once had to say bollocks, very loudly, in front of President Robinson.
The decision prompted some debate but the good users at IMDB have provided the definitive rank of the best Father Ted episodes.
To be honest, every second of the show is magnificent but do you agree with this overall ranking?
5) Hell
Plot: Father Ted, Dougal and Jack take a holiday in a borrowed caravan.
Sheer genius: Can’t stop laughing at the iconic Father Larry Duff driving off the cliff. His screams are hilarious.
4) A Christmassy Ted
Plot: Father Ted wins the “Golden Cleric”, for saving a fellow group of priests from an embarrassing situation.
Sheer genius: “It’s Ireland’s biggest lingerie section I understand, I read that….somewhere”
3) Are You Right There Father Ted?
Plot: Father Ted holds a, “Celebration Of Craggy Island’s Ethnic Diversity”, party to prove he’s not a racist.
Sheer genius: There’s something about the randomness of this lad that always makes us laugh but top prize goes to…

… this whole sequence.

2) Kicking Bishop Brennan up the Arse
Plot: After losing a bet to Father Dick Byrne, Father Ted has to kick Bishop Brennan up the arse.
Sheer genius: Terrifying.

1) Speed 3
Plot: Pat Mustard seeks revenge after Father Ted gets him fired.
Sheer genius: The whole episode but we’re opting for any scenes with this man and THAT music.
Here’s the overall list of the world’s most popular Father Ted episodes. It’s nice to see that yet again, the JOE readers have been validated by this decision.
