Irish producer to sue Jeremy Clarkson for racial discrimination and personal injury

The incident led to Clarkson's sacking as the host of Top Gear

The Irish producer at the centre of an incident involving Jeremy Clarkson is suing the former Top Gear host for racial discrimination and personal injury.

Oisín Tymon was involved in a fracas with Clarkson over the failure to be served a steak at the end of a day’s filming in Yorkshire.

A tribunal official confirmed that a hearing took place but refused to offer any further details of the case.

According to The Guardian, Tymon’s lawyers, Slater & Gordon, also declined to comment on the case. It is thought that Tymon could be awarded as much as £100,000, given the charges involved.

An investigation from the BBC earlier this year found that Clarkson had subjected Tymon to a 30-second physical attack and verbal tirade, during which he was “struck, resulting in swelling and bleeding to his lip.”

A spokesman for the BBC said: “We will be responding to this claim but will not be commenting further at this time.”

Since the incident, Clarkson has signed up to host a rival show to Top Gear on Amazon’s TV service with Richard Hammond and James May, while Tymon returned to work with the BBC in May.
