Sack me? Sack me? I MADE THE BBC!
Jeremy Clarkson will today be sacked by the BBC after an investigation by the broadcaster found that he did indeed assault an Irish producer in the now infamous ‘fracas’ that got him into such trouble in the first place.
Virtually every media source in the UK are reporting that the BBC have decided to cut their losses with the Top Gear presenter, who allegedly verbally and physically assaulted Irishman Oisin Tymon after a row over food in a hotel following a recent Top Gear shoot.
The decision to get rid of Clarkson is expected to be announced by Director General of the BBC Lord Hall today following the completion of an internal investigation.
The BBC are believed to be planning on continuing to broadcast Top Gear in Clarkson’s absence, with Radio 2 Breakfast Show host and renowned petrol-head Chris Evans being touted as Clarkson’s replacement.
Whether Clarkson’s Top Gear co-presenters James May and Richard Hammond will stay involved remains to be seen.
As for Clarkson, despite the fracas being the latest in a string of public controversies, such is his profile and his appeal to a large section of the UK audience – hundreds of thousands of people signed a petition pleading to keep him at the BBC – that he will likely be highly sought after by the BBC’s competitors and we’ll probably see him back on the box before too long.
In the meantime, we’d love to think his reaction to the news is a little bit like this…
