Mark Hamill’s character received the medal for blowing up the Death Star in the 1977 film.

A medal awarded to Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars movie is on sale for €287,000 to €575,000 (£238,00 to £476,00).

Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) awards the Medal of Yavin to Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) at the end of the film.

Han Solo (Harrison Ford) also wears one around his neck.

The auctioneers Propstore are selling the medal and claim it is the “first and only medal to be offered for public sale.”

After being verified by their team, they confirmed that the medal comes from the collection of props master Gerard Bourke, who worked on the original Star Wars films.

The bowcaster which belonged to Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) in all of the original trilogy’s films is also up for sale.

Its price ranges from €239,590 to €479,000 (£198,500 to £397,000).

To create the iconic weapon a real Horton crossbow was modified to give it a futuristic look so it could serve as a laser weapon.

The auctioneers have called it “one of the rarest Star Wars hero props in existence.”

Propstore’s chief operating officer, Brandon Alinger said: “Propstore is thrilled to bring these incredible Star Wars props to auction and for fans to see them for the first time in many years.

“Principal character pieces from the original trilogy are extremely rare and highly sought after.

“Each of these treasures holds a special place in cinematic history, and we are excited to see them find new homes where they will be appreciated and preserved for years to come.”

The items are set to go on sale at the Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction in Los Angeles which takes place from March 26th to 28th.
