John Wick: Chapter 2 – Virgin Media One – 9pm

Our pick for tonight, Keanu Reeves stars as the titular retired hitman who is forced back into his old life to fulfill a blood oath to an Italian crime lord (Riccardo Scamarcio).

Arguably the best of the John Wick trilogy to date, this sequel gives viewers more incredibly staged fight scenes while expanding the world of the franchise, both in terms of setting and the series’ unique lore.

Jarhead – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

Jake Gyllenhaal is excellent as a young US soldier in this Gulf War-set biographical drama.

The Tunnel – Film4 – 11.00pm

When a truck crashes inside a tunnel, people on their way home for Christmas become trapped in a deadly fire in this Norwegian disaster thriller.

The Children’s Act – RTÉ One – 11.15pm

An adaptation of Ian McEwan’s novel of the same name starring Emma Thompson and Stanley Tucci.

Whitney – Channel 4 – 11.35pm

Filmmaker Kevin McDonald (The Last King of Scotland) helms this documentary about late singer Whitney Houston.

Get Carter – Turner Classic Movies – 11.35pm

This ’70s British crime flick boasts a legendary lead performance from Michael Caine.

The Notebook – BBC One – 12am

The second Nicolas Sparks adaptation on TV tonight after Message in a Bottle.

What’s Eating Gilbert Grape – True Movies – 12.55am

Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio star in this ’90s coming-of-age drama.
