Movies, movies, movies.
It’s still January. The month that refuses to stop.
Perhaps you’ve been paid today. Maybe you spent all of your disposable cash on Drake tickets. You might even be struggling to balance the books in this post-Christmas financial fog.
What we’re getting at here is you may require a cheap entertainment option on this Friday 25 January, and we’re here to provide that.
Here are the best movies on the box tonight…
Starship Troopers – ITV4 – 9pm
Wildly misunderstood at the time, Paul Verhoven’s violent satire is a tremendous tribute to B-movies of years gone by and stands up today as a damning indictment of war and blind patriotism.
The Purge – Film 4 – 9pm
The original, but not necessarily the best.
American Reunion – ITV2 – 9pm
The OG American Pie crew makes their grand return in ‘not bad’ fashion.
Resident Evil: Apocalypse – SyFy – 9pm
One of the more tolerable ones.
Snake Eyes – Universal TV – 9pm
You can see the seams burst apart in this Nicolas Cage crime conspiracy thriller before all is said and done, but there’s much to enjoy here including Cage’s dodgy fashion sense, the underrated Gary Sinise and a truly fantastic opening sequence.
Unforgiven – RTÉ 2 – 9.45pm
Clint Eastwood heads up a gritty western revival alongside Morgan Freeman, Gene Hackman and Richard Harris. A legitimate classic.
Predator – Film 4 – 10.40pm
Arnie hits up the jungle for some gruesome downtime.
Kill Bill: Volume 1 – SyFy – 11pm
Uma Thurman is going to kill Bill.
Peggy Sue Got Married – RTÉ One – 11.55pm
Nicolas Cage makes a name for himself opposite Kathleen Turner in this clever comedy.
Some Mother’s Son – RTÉ 2 – 12.10am
Helen Mirren takes top billing in this powerful examination of IRA conflicts and the devastating fallout thereof.
Predator 2 – Film 4 – 12.50am
He’s in town for a few days to kill.
