16th Jan 2023

One of the sexiest films of recent years is among the movies on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

It’s about a rock star laying low on an Italian island.

Staying in tonight becomes of the freezing weather?

Well, not to worry as there are plenty of movies to watch.

For instance, Netflix just added 13 big films to its library, while Denzel Washington’s most underrated movie just turned 25 years old and is streaming on Prime Video.

However, if none of these are for you, here are the films on TV this evening.

Made in Italy – Film4 – 9pm

Liam Neeson stars with his real-life son Micheál Richardson in this 2020 comedy-drama.

Magnum Force – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

The solid first sequel to the Clint Eastwood-starring crime thriller Dirty Harry.

Convoy – Legend – 9pm

Helmed by legendary filmmaker Sam Peckinpah (Straw Dogs, The Wild Bunch), this ’70s road action comedy stars Kris Kristofferson and is based on the hit novelty country song ‘Convoy’.

What They Had – TG4 – 9.30pm

Hilary Swank and Michael Shannon are among the cast of this family drama with an 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

A Bigger Splash

Dakota Johnson and Tilda Swinton in our pick for tonight – A Bigger Splash

The Silence of the Lambs – ITV4 – 10.30pm

Still the only horror to win the Best Picture prize at the Oscars.

Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle – Film4 – 10.50pm

Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu kick-ass in this action comedy sequel.

Identity – Legend – 11.05pm

Ten strangers (including Amanda Peet, John Cusack and Ray Liotta) stranded at a desolate Nevada motel during a nasty rain storm come to realise that they are being killed off one by one in this atmospheric and fun thriller with a silly twist.

A Bigger Splash – BBC Two – 11.15pm

Our pick for tonight begins with world-famous rocker Marianne Lane (Tilda Swinton) and her filmmaker boyfriend, Paul (Matthias Schoenaerts), relaxing on a small Italian island while she recovers from throat surgery.

However, their peace is quickly interrupted by the surprise arrival of Marianne’s extroverted ex-boyfriend and musical producer, Harry (a scene-stealing Ralph Fiennes), and his mysterious and glamorous daughter, Pen (Dakota Johnson).

Directed by Luca Guadagnino (Bones and All, Call Me By Your Name), what begins as a romantic comedy about beautiful people hanging out in gorgeous Italian locales gradually simmers into something darker and weirder.

Letting Harry and Pen stay with them, Marianne and Paul’s villa eventually becomes a hotbed of desire and jealousy as it becomes clear Harry has never gotten over his and Marianne’s break-up.

The Quiet Ones – Turner Classic Movies – 11.35pm

An early role for House of the Dragon’s Olivia Cooke, she plays a teenager who may be possessed by something supernatural in this ’70s set chiller.
