Red Sparrow – Film4 – 9pm

The second in the hit horror spoof franchise.

The Enforcer – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

The third in the legendary Dirty Harry series starring Clint Eastwood.

Cold Skin – Horror Xtra – 9pm

In this atmospheric period horror, a young man arrives at a remote island to take the post of weather observer only to find himself defending the watchtower from deadly creatures which live on the island shores.

The Humanity Bureau – Legend – 9pm

Nicolas Cage stars in this 2017 dystopian thriller.

Animal Kingdom

Our pick for tonight is the 2010 crime drama Animal Kingdom

Righteous Kill – Turner Classic Movies – 11pm

Al Pacino and Robert De Niro reunited onscreen together for the first since Heat for this 2008 action thriller.

Sadly, the end product did not meet their immense talents.

Love & Mercy – BBC Two – 11.15pm

John Cusack and Paul Dano both play The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson in this wonderful music biopic.

Cobra – ITV4 – 11.40pm

This silly if solid ’80s action flick with Sylvester Stallone wound up inspiring the Ryan Gosling-starring Drive.

You can read about how right here.

Animal Kingdom – Film4 – 11.45pm

Last but not least is our pick for tonight – this 2010 neo-noir crime drama from Australia.

It centers around 17-year-old J (James Frecheville, Black 47) who moves in with his estranged grandmother Smurf (Jacki Weaver in an Oscar-nominated turn) after his mother dies.

It turns out Smurf is the matriarch of a Melbourne crime family, which forces J to navigate his survival amongst his volatile relatives (including a terrifying Ben Mendelsohn in a breakout role) and a detective (the great Guy Pearce) who thinks he can save him.

Also featuring Joel Edgerton (Warrior) and written and directed by David Michôd (The King), Animal Kingdom wowed critics upon release with its incredible performances and by how it manages to be both a truly tense and gritty crime thriller and a fascinating portrait of a dysfunctional family.

It earned an impressive 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes and went on to inspire a successful TV show.
