A cross between Jaws and Alien is among the movies on TV tonight

Dave Hanratty

It’s Friday.

It’s very warm.

It’s time to watch some movies on TV.

Here’s how it looks tonight…

Daddy’s Home 2 – E4 – 9pm

He’s back!

Underwater – Film4 – 9pm

Our main choice for you this evening, and the cross between Jaws and Alien that we mentioned in the above headline.

Warning! This is nowhere near as good as either of those two films but they’re classics, so let’s just set our expectations to ‘watchable sci-fi thriller’ and just kick back, relax and enjoy, yes?

Kristin Stewart plays a mechanical engineer in an underwater facility that comes under attack from something decidedly monstrous. Can she and her team survive the mysterious onslaught?

The Terminator – ITV4 – 9.05pm

Arnie’s first outing as the T-800.

The Ugly Truth – RTÉ 2 – 10.30pm

Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl star in a by-the-numbers rom-com.

The Stalking Moon – TG4 – 10.35pm

TG4 showing a Western on a Friday night, you say?

The Field – RTÉ One – 10.40pm

Classic rural Irish drama that you probably saw in school once or twice.

The Grudge – Film4 – 10.50pm

The 2020 remake of the 2004 horror, which was also a remake. Confused? Don’t blame you. Anyway, if you like jump scares and paper-thin plotting, this one’s for you!

Maze Runner: The Death Cure – Channel 4 – 12.10am

The finale of the deeply forgettable Maze Runner series.

Carrie – Film4 – 12.40am

Stephen King adaptation of a young, bullied girl who finds she has telekinetic powers. Will she use them for good purposes or to exact revenge?

Dedication – RTÉ One – 12.50am

Billy Crudup and Mandy Moore star in a by-the-numbers rom-com.
