A surprisingly good remake is among the movies on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

It features a great cast.

Netflix has just added a very tense thriller series to its library but if you need something else to watch tonight, here are the movies airing on TV this evening.

Die Hard 2 – ITV4 – 9pm

Two years after the events of the original action classic, cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) finds himself embroiled in another terrorist plot during the Christmas season. What are the chances?

Mile 22 – Film4 – 9pm

A poorly cast Mark Wahlberg leads this action thriller that is essentially Sicario but sillier and nowhere near as good.

Lethal Weapon 3 – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

Rene Russo joins Danny Glover and Mel Gibson in this hit action comedy sequel.

The Exorcist – BBC Three – 10pm

“The power of Christ compels you!”

The Italian Job – Film4 – 10.50pm

Our pick for tonight is this 2003 movie about a motley crew of thieves (including Charlize Theron, Jason Statham and Mark Wahlberg) who plan to steal gold from a former associate (Edward Norton) who double-crossed them.

While a US version of the ’60s Michael Caine classic of the same name might sound sacrilegious to some, this remake benefits from a great cast and from being only loosely based on the original, enabling the filmmakers to come up with their own fun, unique heist plot.

The Italian Job

Rampart – AMC – 11pm

Woody Harrelson plays a corrupt cop in ’90s Los Angeles in this crime thriller co-written by acclaimed novelist James Ellroy (L.A. Confidential).

Shut In – Horror Xtra – 11pm

Naomi Watts leads the cast of this psychological horror with a measly 4% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Night of the Creeps – Legend – 11pm

An ’80s cult classic comedy-horror that JOE has recommended before.

Platoon – ITV4 – 11.30pm

Written and directed by Oliver Stone and starring Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger and Willem Dafoe, this hard-hitting Vietnam war drama won the Best Picture Oscar award.
