The movie proved controversial upon release due to its high levels of violence.
One of the most talked about movies of recent years is finally available to stream at home. However, if you need something else to view this evening, check out JOE’s ‘must-watch at home’ video recommendation for this week below, alongside a list of the films airing on TV tonight.

Red Sparrow – Film4 – 9pm
Oscar-winner and recent JOE interviewee Jennifer Lawrence stars in this very dark spy thriller.
The Outlaw Josey Wales – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm
A terrific Western directed by and starring Clint Eastwood. That said, it is not our pick for tonight.
Ghostbusters – E4 – 9pm
The 2016 version starring Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Melissa McCarthy.
Lethal Weapon 4 – Comedy Central – 9pm
At the time of writing, the last entry in the Danny Glover and Mel Gibson-fronted buddy cop franchise.
Mara – Horror Xtra – 9pm
Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) stars as a criminal psychologist who, while investigating a murder, becomes haunted by a demon that kills people in their sleep.
The Wild Bunch – TG4 – 9.35pm
Our pick for tonight is this Western set in 1913 which follows a gang of aging, ruthless outlaws (including William Holden and Ernest Borgnine) on the run from American bounty hunters after a botched bank robbery leaves several civilians dead.
Hiding out in Mexico, the outlaws wind up being hired by a Mexican general (Emilio Fernandez) to rob a train full of US weapons. However, pulling off the heist and then retrieving their reward proves extremely difficult.
Helmed by the legendary director Sam Peckinpah (Straw Dogs), this 1969 movie saw the filmmaker try and break away from Hollywood’s previous depictions of the Old West. Frustrated by how bloodless and neatly divided into heroes and villains the Western genre had become, Peckinpah made nearly all the characters in The Wild Bunch – on both sides of the law – hardened killers, while upping the violence levels to such an extent that the audience might get, in his words, “some idea of what it is to be gunned down”.
The end result is a film that still hits hard to this day, thanks to its visceral set-pieces, thematic depth and tough-as-nails performances by the likes of Borgnine and Holden, as well as Robert Ryan as the man tasked with catching The Wild Bunch.

The High Note – RTÉ One – 9.35pm
This well-reviewed 2020 comedy-drama centres around a superstar singer (Tracee Ellis Ross) and her overworked personal assistant (Dakota Johnson).
The Lake House – RTÉ2 – 10pm
Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock reunited after Speed for this romantic drama with a fantasy twist.
Wild Things – Comedy Central Extra – 10pm
A movie JOE once called “a masterpiece of the grotty erotic thriller sub-genre”.
Howl – Legend – 10.55pm
This 2015 British horror follows passengers on a train who must band together to survive after being attacked by a werewolf.
Harold & Kumar Get the Munchies – MTV – 11pm
Starring John Cho and Kal Penn as two stoners who, you guessed it, get the munchies – this is the first entry in the comedy franchise.
Cult of Chucky – Horror Xtra – 11pm
The seventh installment in the legendary horror series.

William Holden and Warren Oates in The Wild Bunch, our pick for tonight
Speed 2: Cruise Control – ITV4 – 11.05pm
Jason Patric replaces Keanu Reeves and a boat replaces a bus in this critically panned follow-up to the aforementioned classic Speed.
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut – Comedy Central – 11.30pm
A big screen adaptation of the hit adult animated sitcom.
The Leisure Seeker – RTÉ One – 11.40pm
Screen legends Donald Sutherland and Helen Mirren play an older couple who embark on a road trip in this comedy-drama.
Planet Terror – Film4 – 11.45pm
This very fun horror comedy from Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk Till Dawn, Sin City) was originally released as part of a double feature with Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof.
