The bank holiday weekend is here, meaning there is plenty of time to check out some movies and TV shows.
In keeping with that, JOE recommended a few particular series to watch over the period in the video below.

Le Mans ’66 – Channel 4 – 9pm
Also known as Ford v Ferrari, our pick for tonight tells the story of two racing experts (Christian Bale and Matt Damon) as they aim to build a revolutionary car for Ford to defeat Ferrari with at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966.
Directed by James Mangold (Logan, The Wolverine), Le Mans ’66’s exciting racing sequences, terrific cast and rousing underdog story make it no surprise the movie was an Oscar Best Picture nominee following its 2019 release.
Terminator Salvation – Sky Showcase – 9pm
Christian Bale stars again, this time in the fourth and sadly, not very good, Terminator movie.
Jason Bourne – Film4 – 9pm
Matt Damon stars again too, this time in the decent fifth and so far final movie in the Bourne franchise.
Sicario – Virgin Media Two – 9pm
A terrific crime thriller that JOE has already recommended plenty of times before.
The Other Woman – Comedy Central – 9pm
In this comedy, three women (Cameron Diaz, Kate Upton and Leslie Mann) all romantically involved with the same man team up to take their revenge on him after finding out about each other.
Stake Land – Horror Channel – 9pm
This solid indie horror takes place in a world of vampires and follows an expert vampire hunter and his young protégé as they travel toward sanctuary.
Lethal Weapon 4/Payback – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm/11.40pm
It’s a Mel Gibson double bill over on TCM.
Braveheart – RTÉ2 – 9.05pm
Gibson can also be seen on screens tonight in the Oscar Best Picture winner he directed and starred in.
Emma – RTÉ One – 9.25pm
Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit) is the title character in this well-reviewed 2020 take on Jane Austen’s classic romance novel.
Bachelorette – MTV – 10pm
In this dark comedy, three friends (Isla Fisher, Kirsten Dunst and Lizzy Caplan) are asked to be bridesmaids at the wedding of a woman (Rebel Wilson) they used to ridicule back in high school.
Bridesmaids – TG4 – 10.25pm
Speaking of Bridesmaids, this smash hit comedy centers on a woman (Kristen Wiig) who suffers a series of misfortunes after being asked to serve as maid of honour for her best friend (Maya Rudolph).
Con Air – ITV4 – 11pm
An action classic and another film we’ve recommended many a time before.
The Divergent Series: Allegiant – Sky Showcase – 11pm
The third and final entry in the YA series of films.
Welcome to the Jungle – Comedy Central – 11.15pm
Jean-Claude van Damme stars in this action comedy about a company retreat on a tropical island goes terribly awry.
Man Up – BBC One – 11.20pm
In this decent romantic comedy, a man (Simon Pegg) misidentifies a woman (Lake Bell) as being his blind date and she decides not to correct him.
Commando – Film4 – 11.25pm
A very fun ’80s action flick starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
A Midnight Clear – RTÉ One – 11.45pm
This ’90s World War II drama features amongst its cast Ethan Hawke and Gary Sinise.
American Assassin – Channel 4 – 12.00am
After the death of his girlfriend at the hands of terrorists, a young man (Dylan O’Brien) is drawn into the world of counterterrorism, mentored by a tough-as-nails former US Navy SEAL (Michael Keaton).
The Turning – RTÉ2 – 12.20am
This modern adaptation of Henry James’ classic ghost story The Turn of the Screw stars Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and Mackenzie Davis (Black Mirror).
