An Oscar-nominated Irish-led drama is among the movies on TV tonight

It got multiple Oscar and Golden Globe nominations.

With a pretty awful weather forecast in place for this gloomy autumnal Sunday, it may be best to stay inside and shelter on the couch. Thankfully there’s some excellent choices among the movies on TV tonight to keep you company.

Men in Black – E4 – 6.15pm

Agent K and Agent J have their first adventure together in this 1997 sci-fi comedy starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones.

Mrs. Doubtfire – FilmFour – 6.35pm

Robin Williams dresses up as a Scottish maid in order to get close to his kids in this hilarious 90’s comedy.

Logan – FilmFour – 9pm

Arguably the best superhero movie of the past decade sees Hugh Jackman return as a grizzled and aged Wolverine, who must protect a young mutant (played excellently by Dafne Keen). It’s action packed, it’s violent as hell and it’s pretty much all you could ask for in a superhero flick.

Ocean’s Thirteen – RTÉ 2 – 9pm

The third instalment sees the iconic heist trilogy return to form after the disappointing Ocean’s Twelve. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy García and Don Cheadle all return as the ragtag group of criminals with Al Pacino, Casey Affleck and Elliott Gould all making appearances.

Murder on the Orient Express – Channel 4 – 9pm

Kenneth Branagh dons the mustache of Hercule Poirot in this cinematic retelling of Agatha Christie’s mystery. It’s pretty decent viewing, with an excellent ensemble cast. A good time to get watching if you’re looking to catch A Haunting in Venice this week.

Angel Has Fallen – E4 – 9pm

First it was Olympus, then London, now it’s Angel that’s doing the falling. Why is there three of these movies? We really don’t know. But if you’re a fan of big set-pieces and lots of action, then this is the flick for you among the movies on TV tonight.

Psycho – BBC Two – 11.30pm

The iconic 1960 Alfred Hitchcock slasher gave us one of the most memorable scenes in cinema history. The rest of the movie ain’t bad either.

Loving – BBC One – 11.50pm

Ruth Negga and Joel Edgerton star in Loving (2016).

Our pick of the movies on TV tonight is this excellent biographical drama from 2016, which attracted a huge amount of awards buzz.

Starring Irish actress Ruth Negga, Loving is a tender retelling of the story of Richard and Mildred Loving, the plaintiffs in the 1967 U.S. Supreme Court decision Loving v. Virginia, which invalidated state laws prohibiting interracial marriage.

Starring alongside Joel Edgerton, Negga received Best Actress noms for both the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes for her incredible performance as Mildred, firmly cementing her as one of the great Irish actresses.

Fatherhood – Channel 4 – 1.10am

Kevin Hart stars (surprisingly not alongside Dwayne Johnson) in this comedy drama about a father who has to raise his daughter alone after the sudden death of his wife.

Deepwater Horizon – FilmFour – 1.45am

If you’re up late tonight, then this disaster flick starring Mark Wahlberg is worth a watch. Based on the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, this 2016 film also stars Kurt Russell, John Malkovich, Gina Rodriguez, Dylan O’Brien, and Kate Hudson.
