A thrilling submarine heist is among the movies on TV tonight

Monday Movie Mix.

Well now, it’s the final day of January.

A month that felt about 12 months long all by itself.

How best to celebrate? Why, with some movies.

Movies on TV, that is.

Here’s how it looks on the box on Monday, 31 January…

Failure to Launch – Film4 – 7.10pm

Matthew McConaughey stars in one of those mid-2000s rom-coms where he leans against the love interest on the poster in a vaguely smug fashion. You know the ones.

Sarah Jessica Parker plays the dance partner in question this time.

Can her life coach successfully shake up McConaughey’s slacker ways and find love in the process? I’ve not seen this one but… probably, yeah.

Jason Bourne – Film4 – 9pm

The fifth one.

Matt Damon returns to the franchise as yet another dangerous conspiracy emerges.

Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, Vincent Cassell and Riz Ahmed also feature.

Jack Reacher – ITV4 – 9pm

Tom Cruise is a legendary former military police officer who drifts about the place until he stumbles upon a crime that needs solving.

Following the seemingly random shooting of five people, authorities think they’ve got their man.

Jack Reacher, however, knows better.

The Sisters Brothers – TG4 – 9.30pm

Joaquin Phoenix and John C Reilly play two gunfighter brothers in the old west who are hired for an assassination mission. Jake Gyllenhaal and Riz Ahmed co-star.

The Shanghai Job – SyFy – 11pm

Also known as S.M.A.R.T. CHASE, which may or may not be a better title.

This is a 2017 thriller starring a bleach-blonde Orlando Bloom.

It has so few professional reviews that it doesn’t even have a Rotten Tomatoes score and honestly we’re not certain it actually exists.

Black Sea – Film4 – 11.25pm

Our main choice this evening.

The great Jude Law takes charge amidst a daring undersea heist involving a sunken World War II submarine.

Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland, State of Play) directs a talented cast, including Ben Mendelsohn, Scoot McNairy, Michael Smiley and Jodie Whittaker.

Safe House – ITV4 – 11.40pm

Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds face off in this tense spy thriller from 2012.
