Here are the 10 best movies on TV this Saturday

Dave Hanratty

Grim out there, watch a movie.

It really is that simple, folks.

Saturday 6 July so far for this writer at least has been overcast and rain-soaked.

Sometimes you need to just forget about the outside world and cocoon yourself in the warmth of Hollywood.

And so, let’s see what’s on the television today, shall we?

Liar Liar – ITV2 – 7.15pm

Jim Carrey cannot lie. Chaos ensues.

Oblivion – ITV4 – 8pm

Tom Cruise shines in an underrated sci-fi thriller.

Street Fighter – SyFy – 9pm

So bad it’s good adaptation of the classic arcade fighter featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme being dreadful and the late Raul Julia being incredible.

GoldenEye – ITV – 9.55pm

GoldenEye is always on, but it’s great so we’re including it yet again.

Training Day – ITV4 – 10.35pm

Cop on the edge Denzel Washington – who would win a Best Actor Oscar for this – treats rookie Ethan Hawke to a murderous day that will change both of them forever.

The Neon Demon – Film 4 – 11.05pm

Nicolas Winding Refn of Drive fame sends up the fashion industry in his usual, hyper-stylistic, violent, terrifying, off-putting and preposterous way. A recommend!

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom – BBC Two – 12.05am

Idris Elba steps into the shoes of an icon.

Garage – RTÉ One – 12.40am

Pat Shortt proves that there’s much more in his locker than just broad comedy in this heavy Irish drama.

Memento – BBC One – 1am

Christopher Nolan and Guy Pearce lose their minds in a twisty modern classic.

Inferno – Film 4 – 1.25am

Intense vintage horror from Italian genre maestro Dario Argento.
